Dear John,

Flipping a state from red to blue – especially in the Deep South, and during a global pandemic – is no easy feat. Yet just eight months ago, we achieved such a victory.

I am proud of what we accomplished, John, but we are now poised to lose the progress that we made. Will you chip in to protect our Democratic majorities and save our democracy?

Our voter registration, protection, and mobilization efforts in 2020 reached unprecedented heights. With hard work and people power, we elected two Democratic senators in our state that had not elected one since 2000.

Senators Warnock and Ossoff were the key two seats we needed to secure a Democratic majority in both houses of Congress. We also sent sixteen electoral college votes to President Joe Biden, the first time Georgia voted for a Democratic president since 1992.

In 2020, Georgia was the key to building Democratic power at the federal level. Our hard work has benefited every person in our nation, not just our state.

But Republicans are gearing up to grab their power back. They have already put forth voter suppression laws reminiscent of Jim Crow, and are rigging the redistricting process to gerrymander their way to victory. John, the time for us to act is right now.

Congressman Sanford Bishop has defended voting rights and built Democratic power in Georgia for decades. We cannot afford to lose his leadership, or his seat in the House.
