Hi,
Customs and Border Patrol agents used whips on Haitian refugees, and are
putting them on planes to Haiti -- a country still struggle to survive a
massive earthquake and presidential assassination.
CBP's abuse of refugees is horrific and must stop. But the underlying
policy of deporting refugees from Haiti is itself a major problem. We
should be welcoming refugees, not turning them away!

For too long CBP, as well as ICE, have abused their powers to target, spy
on, physically harm, and de-humanize immigrant communities.
It was only a few years ago the CBP and ICE ripped children from the
families at the border during the Trump administration. Shockingly, CBP is
still housing children in cages at the border during the pandemic.
But the systemic violence doesn't stop there. CBP has spied on immigrant
communities, used drones to surveil Black Lives Matter protests after the
death of George Floyd, and was recently caught bypassing 4th Amendment
protections against illegal search and seizure by buying individual's
real-time location.
These abuses are enabled by the underlying policy of refusing to welcome
refugees to our country.
Haitian refugees deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, and they
deserve to file asylum claims in the safety of the United States. That's
why Congress members like Rep. Ayanna Pressley are calling for President
Biden to "immediately and indefinitely halt deportations."^1
