Dear Bears Ears Supporter,
We greet you with wonderful news - WE DID IT! Bears Ears National Monument is restored!
Today, President Biden honored his promise and restored the Bears Ears National Monument. In this moment of restoration it is your voices that are powerful and carry the messages of our ancestors. Through our combined efforts we shook the world and have now succeeded in an unprecedented effort, five Tribal Nations came together to protect their ancestral homelands.
This is evidence that Indigenous people can Stand in Power and demand more from our governments. It is when Indigenous people are included in the decision-making process that we are able to hear and apply the values of community members. This allows us to address issues that effect our day-to-day lives, instead of being causalities to consequence. When Indigenous voices are included, the outcomes are better for all.
It is here, now, and always that we have chosen to lead with the values of our people first and show up as stewards of our environment. It is with Tribally led co-management principles that we can demonstrate how intertwining our traditional teachings with "modern day science" can care for the Bears Ears Landscape in a way that is culturally sensitive and aware, yet economically beneficial to a region.
