John, this week, a federal judge granted an emergency request from the Justice Department to temporarily block enforcement of Senate Bill 8 — otherwise known as S.B.8 or the Texas abortion ban.
This law banned abortions around six weeks into a pregnancy (which is before many people even realize they’re pregnant in the first place) and makes no exceptions for victims of rape or incest. This bill should have never become law in the first place. But we can’t call this a victory just yet, and here’s why:
It’s unclear how long the emergency ban of S.B.8 will be in effect. Congress must act NOW and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) to codify Roe v. Wade and make sure laws like S.B.8 never pass again. My opponent Henry Cuellar was the ONLY Democrat to side with the Republicans and vote against the WHPA in Congress.
South Texans deserve a real Democrat who will stand up for their reproductive freedoms and constitutional right to abortion access. John, will you make a contribution today to help me unseat Henry Cuellar, the LAST anti-choice Democrat in Congress?

There is no longer any confusion on where Cuellar stands on the right to choose. Even after Texas’ Republican leaders passed S.B.8 — our Congressman refused to defend us and our reproductive rights.
That’s why I won’t rest until abortion rights are fully protected — because I understand that quality healthcare — including access to reproductive healthcare is necessary to achieve justice and economic security for low-income Black and Latino people, who face more roadblocks in order to access contraception.
Last time, super PACs and corporate interests, including the anti-choice Koch brothers’ empire and the banking industry’s major PACs, flooded into our race to defeat us. So although we’re in an off-year, it’s never been more important to garner the support we need to defeat Cuellar. Now is the time to step up if we want to protect abortion rights.
