Russia interfered in our elections in 2016, striking at the very core of our democracy. Now cybersecurity experts and intelligence officials are warning us that they will try again in 2020.

That’s why I’m proud to have helped pass the SHIELD Act, which would require campaigns to notify federal authorities if they are contacted by foreign governments, close loopholes that allow foreign governments to launder money in elections, and strengthen disclosure requirements to make online political ads more transparent.

Russia targeted election systems in all 50 states -- including right here in Illinois. The Senate Intelligence Committee reported an unprecedented level of activity against state election infrastructure.
