In 1974, Ella T. Grasso was the first woman in the United States to be elected Governor in her own right.

Today, the United States has nine women governors and women make up about one third of the CT legislature, 27.4% of the U.S. House, and 24% of the U.S. Senate. While it is progress, there clearly is still more work to be done.
