Dear Neighbor:

I was heartbroken and infuriated to learn the news of the massive oil spill near Huntington Beach that occurred last weekend, dumping at least 126,000 gallons of crude oil into our coastal waters. In 2015 a huge oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara sent tar balls onto the beaches of the South Bay. These repeated, massive oil spills are devastating to our coastal communities. It’s time to put an end to offshore oil drilling on the West Coast. My fellow Co-Chair of the California Coastal Caucus Rep. Julia Brownley and I called on our colleagues to support a federal ban on offshore drilling to protect our environment and wildlife. At this time, the FDA has only authorized the Pfizer vaccine as a booster dose for people who already had two doses of Pfizer. In the coming weeks, an FDA panel will review data on the Moderna and J&J booster doses.

NEW: Yesterday, Pfizer officially submitted its request to the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of its COVID-19 vaccine in children ages 5 to 11. If authorized, this would be the first COVID vaccine for younger children. Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is approved for people age 16 and older and has an EUA for people ages 12 to 15.

Get Vaccinated!

The COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. If you have questions about the vaccine, please consult your doctor.

Everyone age 12 and older who lives or works in LA County is eligible to receive the vaccine. Please check VaccinateLACounty.com for updated information on walk-in vaccinations or to book an appointment ahead of time. To find a vaccination site near you, please visit corona-virus.la/VaxSites. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and bring a signed consent form to receive the Pfizer vaccine.

If you have or someone you know has a disability or does not have access to the internet and needs assistance making your vaccination appointment, you can contact the County’s Call Center –– open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. –– at (833) 540-0473. You can also call this number or fill out an online request form if you or a family member need to be vaccinated at home.
