Hello John,

A lot goes into producing affordable housing, from architecture and engineering, to other contracting and subcontracting roles, that work together to bring the idea of affordable housing developments into real, tangible communities.

Historically, architecture, construction, and other related businesses owned by women, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ folks have faced barriers to getting hired on affordable housing development jobs, and therefore face unique challenges in building their reputation and business.

This is why NPH has partnered with Swinerton to bring you Networking for Inclusive Professional Services in Affordable Housing, a virtual event coming up Tuesday, October 26 at 3PM-5PM PDT.

More about this event: Join members of NPH’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Working Group with Swinerton to discuss how we can step outside ‘business as usual’ to make procurement of professional services more inclusive and equitable and include more firms with women, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), and LGBTQIA+ owners and leaders.

This two-part event includes an hour of discussion, led by leaders of BIPOC professional services such as architects and engineers, as well as representatives from Bay Area nonprofit affordable housing developers, on ways to overcome the barriers to increasing the participation of diverse professional services in affordable housing development. The second hour is for networking, where we will meet and greet with regional BIPOC and other diverse vendors who are interested in working on affordable housing projects. (Please note that the first hour will take place via Zoom, and the second hour via Remo. Detailed instructions will be sent to all registrants.)

I hope to see you there!

Onward,
