Indigenous People's Day, book launch & more!

Dear John,

As those with power and wealth continue to debate whether our nation has the resources to meet the needs of all of its people – with talk about debt ceilings and budget and infrastructure bills – we will continue to denounce the lie of scarcity amidst great abundance, and keep building our movement to end poverty once and for all.

This past Monday, our co-chair Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II was invited to speak at Vatican to address the conference entitled Caritas, Social Friendship, and the End of Poverty. He reminds us that, "As Francis once walked this land proclaiming good news to the poor, the poor and rejected of my country march and sit-in today to declare the good news that a moral economy is possible in our time." Read on to join us on Monday for Indigenous People's Day, where we'll talk with the Shinnecock Nation about #LandBack and the Third Reconstruction. On Tuesday, we launch the highly-anticipated book We Cry Justice: Reading the Bible with the Poor People's Campaign, edited by co-chair Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, and with a foreword by Rev. Barber. And be sure to scroll down and save the date for our other upcoming events!

Monday October 11th – Indigenous People's Day: Land Back & the Third Reconstruction

Join us on Indigenous People's Day to bear witness and learn from the plight, fight and insight of the Shinnecock Nation. Like other indigenous communities throughout New York State and North America, the Shinnecock are disproportionately impacted by the intersecting evils of poverty, systemic racism and environmental devastation, militarism/colonialism, and the distorted moral narrative of Christian nationalism. They are also engaged in an ongoing struggle to defend their sovereignty and land rights.

Join us virtually to hear testimony on the impact of these injustices, how the community is organizing in response, and how we can act in solidarity to build a world that reflects our values.
