John, this is not really how I wanted to end the week.
The Philadelphia Inquirer just reported that our Republican opponent wrote themselves a $3 MILLION check to boost their campaign. They’re spending the first million right out of the gate on a big TV ad campaign statewide.
Just to put that in context, our entire campaign raised $2.7 million over the last three months. More than anyone else in PA has raised in any quarter so far! We’ve had more than 150,000 people chip in. But one self-funder candidate was just able to write themselves a check and instantly top our total.
I wish it weren’t this way, John. But in the last midterms, 8-in-10 Senate races were won by the candidate who spent the most. So we have to compete dollar for dollar. The good news is that there’s more of us, and strength in numbers.
CNN says Pennsylvania is the number one toss-up race on the Senate map. Plus the latest poll shows we’re the ONLY Democrat who beats all the Republicans.
The bad news is that our Republican opponents are going to be extremely well funded. The good news is that we have 150,000+ grassroots supporters — and if everyone gives a little bit we can compete with any self-funders on the other side.
