Save Women's Sports Passes House Committeee and Heads to House Floor

On Wednesday night, the Texas House Constitutional Rights & Remedies Committee passed the Save Women’s Sports bill (H.B. 25) with an 8-4 vote. Texas state Representative Valoree Swanson filed H.B. 25 to prohibit biological men unfairly competing in women’s sports. Texas Values thanks the committee members for their help in protecting women sports by voting to pass this bill and send it to the House Floor.

This bill has the support of over 77 co-authors. H.B. 25 prohibits biological males from competing in University Interscholastic League (UIL) sports meant for biological females, specifically in middle school and high school. Texas Values has requested information from UIL via open record requests to get actual numbers on whether the inquiries to amend birth certificates have increased.

Rogue Federal Judge Blocks Civil Rights Under Heartbeat Law

On Wednesday, a federal judge in Texas issued an order blocking private citizens in Texas from filing legal actions through the Heartbeat Law to protect unborn babies.

Jonathan Saenz, President and Attorney at Texas Values released the following statement:

“This heartbeat law ruling is all politics and no law. No one is surprised that an Obama-appointed judge cooked up some bogus reasons for telling our Texas state judges and clerks that they can’t do their jobs. We know this will be overturned, probably by the end of this week. Lives are at stake and we will do everything in our power to protect a baby with a beating heart.”

Texas Values Team Member Writes Article on Legal Updates to the "End Mail Order Abortions" Law

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Senior Policy Advisor for Texas Values wrote an article for Society of St. Sebastian on the End Mail Order Abortions bill, which was signed into law at this year's 2021 Faith, Family and Freedom Policy Forum. The End Mail Order Abortions law bans mail order abortions in the state of Texas and puts in place stricter measures to protect the public from chemical abortion pills.

Here is one highlight from the article. She said:

“Chemical abortions are often marketed as safe, easy and effective by the abortion industry; however, all of these claims can be challenged by fact...It is uminaginable, tragic and sometimes deadly that a woman would have to experience excessive bleeding and pain while at home alone. Yet, the abortion industry has pushed for chemical abortion pills to be readily available on college campuses....Texas was not remiss in passing SB 4. The law addresses many of the problems that chemical abortion has created.”

Another Austin ISD Victory!

Last week, Austin ISD announced that they have canceled their plans to teach sex education to students in Kindergarten through 8th grade for the 2021-2022 school year. This victory comes after months of the Austin ISD SHAC drafting a sex education curriculum for kids as young as 5 that would introduce the topic of gender identity and other LGBT issues. The district also announced that schools will now have to ask parents’ permission to teach their children about human sexuality. Students will now have to Opt-In to human sexuality instruction and parents will have to sign a permission slip in order for kids to be taught sex education.
