Dear John,
I am writing in strong support of the reelection of Carolyn Maloney to the US House. Based on my having served with Carolyn on the Financial Services committee, it’s clear to me that her leadership has been critical in reforming our financial system and making it work for all Americans.
But right now, she’s facing a tough race. I am confident that she will win if she has the resources to combat the distortion of her record.
Can you chip in $10 to Carolyn’s re-election campaign and be part of our movement to keep Carolyn’s leadership in the House →

I didn’t need a reminder of Carolyn’s important contributions for a fairer financial system, but if I had, I would have received it last week when the Democratic Majority in the Senate overrode Republican opposition to an effective Chair of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and confirmed Rolhit Chopra. Carolyn’s tenacious, effective advocate of protecting consumers is one of the reasons we were able to create that agency over the strong resistance of some of the most powerful institutions in our economy.
Her role on this was typical of the work she has done as one of the most important advocates of consumer protection in recent years. For example, the Pew Foundation has put the amount her work on credit card reform has saved consumers billions of dollars annually.
Carolyn began her crusade for consumer protection during the years of Republican control of the House, and had she had accepted the view that successful, effective Members of Congress should leave after some arbitrary time limit, it is not at all certain that another Member would have succeeded in accomplishing as much as she did.
Her years of service have brought her to an important Chairmanship that she is now using with great effectiveness to hold Donald Trump and his cult accountable for the assault they levied on our democracy. And it’s because of her that accountability is finally taking place.
Please do what you can to keep Carolyn in the job that she has performed so well for the public good.
With gratitude,
Barney Frank
