HH: Joined by the governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan. Maryland is going into the Shoe this weekend, Governor. I’m afraid it’s going to be tough for your Terps when they run into the Buckeyes.

LH: Well, you know, we’re going to give it our best shot, but you’re right. It’s a pretty tough game.

Compassion Without Principle Combined With Ineptitude Equals Chaos

My business travels yesterday took me to one of “those” parts of LA.  Skid Row is a nightmare, you typically have to ask a homeless person to move to find parking there.  Fortunately, that is not where I went.  I went to one of the smaller clusters of homelessness in the city.  It is just depressing to see.  It was rendered worse yesterday because I stopped in the area to grab a drink at a convenience store which had me standing in line with several of the homeless denizens.  Their lack of simple functionality, counting money, seeing the cash register display, even forming complete sentences in one case, was heart rending.  You think of homeless people as simply down on their luck and I am sure many are, but the people I encountered yesterday were in a very different...

Great Compromises

Sometimes it is necessary to compromise with wrong or evil – at least on a civil or public level.

Joseph Stalin, a bigger killer than Hitler, was our ally in WWII.  We compromised with evil to defeat evil.  Then we defeated the evil we compromised with, slowly and over the course of decades.  It was necessary.

At the founding either we compromised with slavery or there was no nation.  Simple fact.  Eventually we rid ourselves of it, but the initial compromise was mandatory to get to the place where we could.

Now about covid.  Set aside all the discussion and mis-messaging , mismanagement, abridgment of constitutional rights, scolding and every other of the countless and awful mistakes that have been made during this mess.  Focus on where we are right...
