Dear John
Brexit has led to staff shortages, friction-ridden trade
and empty shelves and petrol stations.
Global inflation, gas price rises
and supply chain failures are being amplified in Britain as a result
of bad deals the government has made on behalf of the British
people.
The Government is refusing to take responsibility for its
failings.
More than this, our Government is
compounding all these problems by pushing people further into poverty.
It is quickly turning into an acute cost of living crisis.
Universal Credit has been cut and
National Insurance has been increased. Lower and middle-income workers
are seeing their living standards squeezed. All the while, the cost of
basic necessities like food, fuel and gas continues to rise, with no
support in sight for those struggling to meet these costs.
If you’d like to read more about
this issue, our Senior Campaigns and Policy Officer Maheen Behrana has
written an
article exploring how the Government is driving people into
poverty.
In the article, she considers what
the alternatives to this cost of living crisis are, and looks to the
examples of our friends and partners around the world for what we
ought to be doing.
Find out more about why we’re
campaigning for fair trade, not food poverty.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith
