Image Description: Brad Lander and community members at the Harlem Listening Tour stop
In every neighborhood we’ve been to so far on our listening tour, people showed up out of love for their community, brimming with ideas for how to make it better.
In Harlem we talked about investing in youth jobs to keep teens engaged and building skills. In Washington Heights we discussed reforming our approach to building affordable housing so that more funding goes to communities rather than developers. In the Bronx we acknowledged the need for more transit options between neighborhoods and less red tape for small businesses.
I believe the best leaders are eager collaborators. Building a New York City that works for all of us requires listening to all of you. That’s why I’ve collaborated with community organizers and activists on policy changes, budget decisions, and legislation as a city council member, and it’s why I’m doing a listening tour in my campaign for Comptroller.
Help me bring as many folks as possible into this process by supporting our outreach fund. Your donation makes these listening tour stops possible.
Unable to attend a listening tour stop in person? On October 19th, I’ll be hosting a virtual listening tour stop on zoom! Sign up here to join.
This listening lour is the start, but not the end of the conversation with New Yorkers. The Comptroller’s job is to hold city government accountable, and the best way to do that is to have an ear to the ground in our neighborhoods to hear what’s working and what needs fixing. That’s what I plan to do.
Thank you,
Brad
P.S. We’re texting residents to invite them to our next listening tour event in Southeast Queens this Sunday evening, RSVP here to join us.
