How do we 'save a wave'?

We proactively protect surf ecosystems.
We steward coastlines and encourage community action.
We defend surf breaks under threat.

In various corners of the globe, we are leveraging partners and resources to protect, steward and defend surf ecosystems.

Below are a few examples of our Coalition at work in the last few months - from stewardship challenges and conservation wins in Mexico, to supporting local campaigns in Japan and Australia.

Calling all surfers and beach-lovers for a chance to win $5,000 and give back to your local coastline!

Hosted on the Save The Waves App, the Dirty Wave Challenge is open until November 15th. To enter, post a threatened beach or surf break on the app. The selected winner will receive a $5,000 Stewardship Grant and work alongside Save The Waves to solve the issue.

In a historic moment, the first state park in Baja California was officially approved, protecting the iconic San Miguel wave alongside 67 hectares of green space.

Spearheaded by our partners at Pronatura Noroeste ([link removed]) AC, this initiative has been in the works for years. Learn more about the campaign to #SaveSanMiguel and our long road achieving lasting protection.

** Report the Oil Spill in California
------------------------------------------------------------
In a devastating incident, up to 144,000 gallons of crude oil have spilled into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California. This oil spill threatens marine life, pristine coastal environments and greatly impacts the daily lives of California communities.

Help Track the Effects:

Do you live in Southern California? Please help us track the impact of oil spill! Download the Save The Waves App ([link removed]) , take photos and post your on-the-ground insight to the problem. The data you upload will be provided to local partners who are tackling the issue.

Support Surfrider Foundation:

Our friends at Surfrider have been fighting offshore drilling for years and their team is actively rallying support to enact real change for our coastlines. Please check them out and take action ([link removed]) .

Save The Waves is supporting two localized campaigns in dire need of support - Katoku, Japan and Killalea, Australia. These waves may be destroyed. We need your help. Sign our partners petitions and voice your concern!

World Surfing Reserves (WSR) is Save The Waves’ flagship program dedicated to protecting outstanding surf breaks across the globe with ten officially declared reserves in countries including Australia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, the United States and more.
