Supporting Mental Health Policies and Practices through the American Rescue Plan
|
In March 2021, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which included much-needed federal investments and opportunities to advance mental health policies and resources at the state and local level. However, these investments don’t fully address the structural, systemic, and policy changes required to ensure appropriate and effective mental health services are equitably available to all individuals and communities. This brief offers a set of principles policymakers and other stakeholders can consider as they implement ARPA’s mental health provisions.

Equity in Housing; Fighting Eviction
|
Housing is a complicated issue for people living in poverty. CLASP team members recently published two blogs covering key issues in housing. One discusses the importance of incorporating equity into solutions addressing housing instability. The other advocates for using emergency rental assistance program funds to cover legal counsel in eviction cases.

As announced several months ago, Olivia Golden will be stepping down after more than eight years as CLASP’s Executive Director. On September 29, Nia West-Bey presented at a webinar titled “Trauma and Suicide during Catastrophic Events and Beyond: Strategies for Preventing Suicide in California.” The California Department of Public Health’s Injury and Violence Prevention Branch and the Prevention Institute hosted the event.

On October 19-20, Tiffany Ferrette, Christine Johnson-Staub, Alyssa Fortner, Alycia Hardy, and Molly Bashay will present at the Building Strong Foundations for Families Economic Security Convening.
