Precision Guided Missiles: A Significant Threat to Israel’s Security
To Israel’s north, in Lebanon, increasing numbers of precision-guided missiles (PGMs) are being produced by the Iranian-terrorist proxy Hezbollah. The missiles severely complicate Israel’s ability to repel Hezbollah’s aggression by increasing attack effectiveness and limiting the number of missiles the attacker must use. Israel’s missile defense system is perhaps the most advanced missile defense system in the world, but these systems are expensive and imperfect. If Hezbollah acquires a large number of PGMs, it would pose an even more serious challenge to Israel’s defenses. Last month, the IDF published details about Hezbollah's precision-guided missile program, which the terror group embeds among Lebanese civilians. America must continue to provide our ally
with the support needed as it acts to prevent an existential threat from Hezbollah.

Israel is Bracing for Direct Missile or Drone Attack by Iran
Israel is readying for a direct cruise missile or drone strike by Tehran, according to a report by Army Radio. Unlike ballistic missiles, which usually fly through a high arc on the way to the target, cruise missiles and drones fly at low altitude, making them harder to detect. According to the report, the IDF was already on high alert for the possibility and the security cabinet will convene for an “unplanned” meeting next Tuesday. This would be the second time this month that the high-level security cabinet has convened. On October 6, its members gathered amid cryptic warnings by Israeli leaders of a growing security threat from Iran. During the meeting, ministers discussed a proposal for a NIS 1 billion ($290 million) project to boost Israel’s air defenses that would
place particular focus on defending the country against cruise missile attacks.

Israeli Startup Plans Pilot Production of Clean Meat
Israeli startup Future Meat Technologies of Jerusalem raised $14 million to expand the world’s first cultured-meat pilot production facility. Estimated to begin operations in 2020, the plant near Tel Aviv will make cost-efficient, GMO-free meat from animal cells. Future Meat’s sustainable manufacturing model is expected to use 99 percent less land and emit 80 percent less greenhouse gas than traditional meat production. “The Future Meat team has developed a technology platform and roadmap that offers the cleanest and most efficient means of cell-based meat production, both in terms of capital expenditure and cost per pound, that we’ve seen to date,” said Matthew Walker, managing director at S2G Ventures, the Chicago-based venture capital firm that led the funding round.
