Yesterday and today, the disability community was joined by those impacted by home and community-based services (HCBS) to share stories for a 24 hour vigil in Washington, D.C.. The event culminates this evening from 6-7pm ET with a story stop on the Capitol steps to deliver these thousands of stories to Senators and urge their commitment to invest in HCBS in the budget reconciliation package.

Stories are a powerful way to bring an issue or piece of legislation to life, and this storytelling event helps paint a clear picture of just how much this critical investment is needed. If fully funded, care workers — most of whom are women of color — would see increased wages and be able to build financial security for themselves and their families, and families would have access to the services they need.

If you’re in DC and want to participate this evening, click here to learn more about the event.

If you can’t make it to the event, you can still take action by emailing your Senators TODAY and urge them to deliver a reconciliation package with a FULL investment in HCBS.

You’re Invited: Making History

Join us Friday, October 15, 8:00-9:30pm ET / 5:00-6:30pm PT, for Making History, a celebration of domestic worker organizing, past and present.

The event will feature the premiere screening of the new short documentary film Demanding Justice: A History of Domestic Workers, and is the launch of the first-ever digital timeline of domestic worker history as well as the unveiling of a series of original portraits of domestic worker “movement ancestors.”

Marking the week that movement ancestor Dorothy Bolden was born, we will celebrate her legacy and visionary leadership that built the foundation for domestic worker organizing today.

We're Not Giving Up

NDWA — as part of the We Are Home campaign — has been fighting all year to win a path to citizenship for DACA and TPS recipients, farmworkers, and all essential workers as part of the Congressional budget reconciliation bill.

But the Senate Parliamentarian ruled against the proposal to put immigrant youth, TPS-holders, farm workers, and essential workers on a pathway to citizenship through budget reconciliation.

Though this ruling is a setback for our movement, the fight is far from over.

We need you to take action today: call Congressional Leadership to tell them they must pass citizenship for immigrant communities as part of the Build Back Better Act. CALL 1-855-688-5524 today.
