Great news! Match campaign smashing success

Less great news:  Congressional Democratic leaders STILL seek a way to put amnesty into their budget bill

October 7, 2021

To All Members of NumbersUSA:

Dear John,

Good news! NumbersUSA Action reached and surpassed our fundraising goal for our Matching Campaign. It was a huge success!

Many, many thanks to the thousands of you who made donations to the campaign. Our initial goal was $150,000. We made that and our largest donors decided to up the stakes by donating more. So the campaign goal was raised to $200,000. You members pitched in and we crossed that with a week or so to spare.

During the final week of the match campaign, still more major donors gave, allowing me to raise the campaign goal yet again to $300,000. Finally, another huge Action donation was made, and more of you gave to match that.

We ended up raising $385,000 during the five weeks of the campaign! This is by far the most money we've ever raised during a single NumbersUSA Action matching campaign!

Boy, did we ever need it! Because of your generosity, we were able to get the needed number of phone calls, faxes, and email messages into Capitol Hill offices. Although we have very encouraging news (see below), this battle is not over.

John, please don't assume that because we succeeded in our matching campaign that we have less need for cash in our new fiscal year. Even after our current fight over amnesty in the budget reconciliation bill, we'll still need to keep fighting uncontrolled and unhelpful immigration in a very hostile D.C. environment. So yes, we need to RAISE A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY IN THIS NEW FISCAL YEAR to keep going through this new fiscal year.

John, have you made a donation recently to our all-important NumbersUSA Action fund? Because of our members' giving to this fund over these years, NumbersUSA enjoys a PERFECT RECORD in blocking major amnesties during the 21st century!

Here's the promising political news:

As I had explained to you at the beginning of the campaign, we focused on moderate Democratic members of Congress. We wanted them to understand just how much their constituents back home opposed an illegal alien amnesty being included in a budget bill, as Democrats were poised to do.

Your generosity has borne fruit. On Monday, moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin told activists that he doesn't think immigration reform will fit into the budget bill currently being negotiated by Congressional Democrats on Capitol Hill. "I don't think [the amnesty is] going to be in there. I really don't," Manchin said. "I think it's too big for that."

Sen. Manchin said he was "totally committed to helping immigrants" but what's important is that he said he wouldn't help Democrats overturn the Byrd rule. Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough had reaffirmed that the Byrd rule prevents Democrats from passing their proposed amnesty as part of the filibuster-proof budget reconciliation bill.

Manchin's statement gives me hope that the pro-amnesty Congressional leaders will ultimately fail in getting an amnesty through this fall.

Yet not all Senate Democrats are convinced. Sen. Dick Durbin said on the Senate floor last week, "For these [illegal alien] families, make no mistake, America is home, and every day they help to make our communities better and our economy stronger. That's the case we plan on making to the Senate Parliamentarian [to allow an amnesty into the reconciliation bill] once again."

A victory now could prevent millions upon millions of illegal aliens from getting amnesty, and discourage some future would-be illegal aliens. But it won't send anyone home, and we still have massive numbers of illegal aliens massing at the Southern border. Even network-TV news sources are predicting a possible surge of hundreds of thousands of aliens in a single month.

The fight is far from over. As you can see, although Sen. Manchin's comments give us renewed hope for a great victory, it would be just one defensive victory in a long, continuing struggle. We need to stay well-funded and ready to fight in Washington. If you haven't given lately, we need to hear from you!
