It’s not often that I agree with Joe Manchin. But on this point, I do.

Conservative Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has been standing in the way of our Democratic agenda on everything from voting rights to our Build Back Better Act. In response to recent criticism, Manchin retorted, “elect more liberals”!

I agree, and that’s exactly what we’re working to do! I founded my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC to invest in the progressive leaders of tomorrow―from direct financial support for candidates, to candidate trainings, to youth fellowships.

Already this year, we’ve trained and supported 23 candidates running for local, state, and federal office. Can you donate today to expand our progressive Democratic majorities in the House and Senate and have the power to build the world we need?

For years, Republicans have been building a bench of right-wing extremists, including in school boards, town councils, and state legislatures. Now, they’re sending these extremists to Congress where they obstruct even the most basic government functions—like raising the debt limit so we can continue to pay our country’s bills.

That’s why I’ve been fighting to elect more progressive women and people of color to elected office. I helped elect the first Latina to the Detroit City Council and the first Asian-American woman to Michigan’s state House, and in the past few years I’ve been proud to make change happen through partnerships with other women policymakers at the local and national level.

Whether being the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan State Legislature or being one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, my whole career has been about breaking down barriers—and then keeping the doors wide open behind me for more progressive people to follow. We need to build our power if we’re going to make urgent, bold changes to meet people’s needs.
