"Judge orders Texas to suspend new law banning most abortions"
—Associated Press, 10/6/21

John — huge news last night: A federal judge has temporarily blocked Texas’s unconstitutional six-week abortion ban.

This is a big win for reproductive justice — and a massive blow to Republicans all across the country attempting to restrict access to women’s health care.

But it’s far from the end of our fight to defend reproductive rights. If anything, Texas’s law is only on hold. Without a law in place to protect the right of people to have abortions, abortion access remains at stake.

Already, right-wing anti-abortion activists are planning to appeal this decision to the very court that allowed this extreme abortion ban to happen in the first place. If we don’t enshrine the right to an abortion into law, we risk not only ending up back where we were yesterday morning — but we risk letting the Supreme Court overturn Roe altogether.

We have to elect a Senator from Pennsylvania who will actively and steadfastly defend reproductive rights — and Val will be that Senator. Please, if you can, rush $5 to help send her to the Senate.

In just a few weeks, the effects of Texas’s ban have been devastating. Since September, abortion has been nearly impossible to access in the state, leaving people without safe, legal options. And already, lawsuits have been filed against doctors providing needed care to their patients.

We cannot allow this to stand. We can’t leave this up to the courts. We need federal action to codify Roe v. Wade and expand — not restrict — reproductive rights.

Val knows what’s at stake here: As a doctor, she’s sat with women making these choices. She’s the right person to lead on keeping critical health care decisions between patients and their doctors — not politicians and their pens.

We have to meet this moment with the urgency it demands and ensure that the Senate protects and expands reproductive rights in the face of these unprecedented attacks. Chip in $5 to help elect a champion for choice to the Senate.
