When I was growing up, my parents were both active union members, working to organize for better wages and defend workers’ rights.

My mom was a Milwaukee school teacher for 30 years, and my dad worked 3rd shift at the General Motors plant.

I got my politics from them.

They taught me the power of grassroots organizing. Their example showed me what is possible when everyday people come together to challenge the status quo.

That's what this campaign is about. We can’t settle for what is – we have to reach for what can be. And it's going to require all of us being involved in order to create the change we need at this moment.

As you know, I'm not taking any corporate PAC money. And unlike others in this race, I do not have large amounts of personal wealth to pour into this campaign. That means we're going to be funding this campaign in a different way – from lots of people making small donations.

So I am asking you directly:

Unfortunately, politicians like Senator Ron Johnson are standing in the way of progress. Rather than stand up for the people of Wisconsin, Johnson has repeatedly peddled wild conspiracy theories and cynical attacks that divide us.

But let's be clear: this campaign isn't simply about defeating Ron Johnson. It is about expanding opportunity to everyone in Wisconsin and across the country, regardless of where they live or where they were born.

In the U.S. Senate, I will be committed to taking on the existential threat of climate change, creating good-paying jobs, and ensuring health care is granted as a right to everyone. But I cannot do it alone.
