Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown

HBO’s award-winning series Mare of Easttown features a main character struggling with the loss of her son by suicide. The show reveals how grief and healing after a suicide loss can be difficult and often painful, and demonstrates how therapy can help in navigating complex feelings, and creating a path toward healing.

This Friday, October 8 at 1pm ET @AFSPnational on Facebook, please join us for a conversation with Mare of Easttown’s Brad Ingelsby (Creator/Writer/Executive Producer) and Mark Roybal (Executive Producer). AFSP’s Senior Manager of Writing and Entertainment Outreach, Brett Wean, will lead a discussion about the depiction of grief and suicide loss in the show, including:

  • How suicide loss was always a central part of the story
  • Mare’s gradual acceptance of help
  • The family dynamics involved in suicide loss
  • Creating the scenes between Mare and her therapist
  • The search for answers: how a detective investigates the mystery of her own grief

We hope you’ll join us for this illuminating conversation about the creative process in depicting suicide loss in popular entertainment.
