Hi John,

This summer, Representative Linda Sánchez (CA-38) and Senator Bob Casey (PA) reintroduced a critically important bill: the Safe Schools Improvement Act (SSIA). SSIA (H.R. 4402 / S. 2410) will require all school districts to adopt anti-bullying policies that specifically protect LGBTQ+ youth, especially those who are transgender, nonbinary, Black, Indigenous, people of color, and/or people with disabilities.

Decades of research—including GLSENS’s own National Climate Surveys—make it clear: comprehensive anti-bullying policies help prevent anti-LGTBQ+ bullying and promote safer and more inclusive schools. Currently, only 21 states, DC, and Puerto Rico have comprehensive anti-bullying policies—let’s make schools safer for LGBTQ+ youth, regardless of their state or zip code!

Tell Congress to Support SSIA: [link removed]

Schools should be liberated and liberating learning communities for all young people. That’s why we’ve been working hard to build support for SSIA on Capitol Hill. With your help, we’ll be one step closer to ensuring LGBTQ+ young people are affirmed and have the supports they need to thrive and reach their full potential.

In solidarity,
