Have you ever heard the phrase work smarter, not harder?
This is how the GOP worked smarter: In 1977, the Koch Brothers started funding local conservative lobbying efforts all across the country. About a decade later, they founded Citizens for a Sound Economy – a large, grassroots network of activists that organized and published conservative policy papers. That momentum and money eventually resulted in flipping 690 state legislature seats for Republicans, who used their new power to draw gerrymandered maps, making it nearly impossible to flip back.
The GOP and their aligned corporate interests played the long game and they won.
The GOP's stronghold in Appalachia, the Great Plains, and the Deep South has had some devastating results, including rampant voter suppression, anti-LGBTQ+ bills and two direct attempts to overturn Roe v. Wade . Local organizers have worked hard every election cycle to build back trust with disillusioned voters, but they’ve often had to start back at square one each cycle because resources dry up.
Groundwork is doing things differently. We’re gonna work smarter. Are you in? [[link removed]]
We’ve learned from political history and from veteran organizers that building long term, year round organizing infrastructure is the best way to build power, remedy injustice, and bring progressive change. The GOP has been pouring money and expertise into these regions for decades and is seeing the returns. Groundwork Project is ready to interrupt them.
Give now, so we can funnel your money directly to the networks of progressive activists who need it most. [[link removed]] We won’t let the GOP outspend or outsmart us this time. There is too much on the line.
