Rider First Awards: We Have LOTS of Winners!

Jaime Viloria, members of the 31 Balboa Action Committee, Supervisor Preston, Supervisor Haney, and SFTR Co-Chair Thea Selby

We couldn't have had a more beautiful evening on the bay on Friday, celebrating transit riders and our transit heroes. Thanks to all who joined us - it was so great to see you!

TWU 250A sponsored the evening and presented Felix Castillo a well-deserved award for Operator of the Year. Felix has been an amazing advocate, bus operator, and spokesperson for his brothers and sisters at the TWU 250A.

We celebrated the work of Jaime Viloria of Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, whose advocacy was essential to the return of Muni's 27 Bryant and 31 Balboa.

We honored the amazing work of Haleema Bharoocha and the Not One More Girl campaign. Much more than an ad campaign, this project is effectively shifting the way policy around safety and security is developed. They have changed who is at the table.

Students who engaged in transit advocacy during one of the most difficult years received an award for Launching the Next Generation of Transit Advocates. They're becoming leaders in their own right as they apply their energy and passion to work for a better transit future.

We honored transit advocate Monica Mallon for all her work to save VTA, to fight for needed funding and service, and to change the minds of decision-makers about the importance of good public transit.

We also celebrated the work of SFMTA's TETL Team - the planners and communications staff who made 12.5 new transit-only lanes possible in just one year, impacting 14 Muni routes! This work was a huge leap forward in providing riders with efficient, reliable, and faster Muni service - and gets us that much closer to our 30x30 goal.

We had an overwhelming response to our Transit Ride Contest - almost 150 people logged just shy of 3,000 rides in September!! Our most famous winner of the Ride Contest was Supervisor Dean Preston, who logged the most rides of any of our elected officials.

We're sorting out all the winners and tracking them down to deliver their prizes - stay tuned for the final tally and more details about all the Transit Month fun!

Thanks to our friends at Seamless Bay Area and East Bay Transit Riders Union for all your work and for co-producing this wonderful event. Thanks to Director of Transporation Jeff Tumlin for supporting and engaging with our membership and transit advocates. Thanks to BART Chief Communications Officer Alicia Trost, Supervisor Dean Preston, Supervisor Matt Haney, SFMTA Board Chair Gwyneth Borden, SFMTA Board Director Sharon Lai, Director of Transit Julie Kirschbaum, and SFCTA Executive Director Tilly Chang, and to our members and friends for joining us and showing your support for transit and transit riders!

TONIGHT: Member-Only Discussion Of 2022 Service Plans

SFMTA is seeking feedback from the public - and SFTR - on where to invest an additional 10% service in February 2022. Learn about their proposals on the SFMTA website

We have significant concerns around the timeline and process for outreach around these proposals, and we remain committed to full service restoration. However, the 2022 service plans provide a framework to discuss the future of Muni service. This member-only discussion will inform SFTR's advocacy on the 2022 plans and future service recommendations.

Become a member now to have your survey answers counted and to get the zoom link for tonight!

Thanks to our Transit Month sponsors!
