[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear John,
Our nation has a rich legacy of continuing to expand equal representation. Each step in the history of making our democracy available to more and more people resulted in a stronger nation, a fairer nation, and one that more closely upholds the true values of our democracy.
The status of Statehood for the people of DC is the unfinished business of that legacy. It is the unfinished business of the civil rights movement. It is the unfinished business of the original effort to end tyranny through taxation without representation. The people of the District of Columbia deserve, simply, to be fully part of our democracy. No one in America should be excluded from full and equal representation just because of their zip code.
Join us for a special evening panel discussion next Thursday, October 14, from 7-8 PM featuring Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, and Dr. Derek Musgrove, co-author of Chocolate City , to understand our role in moving forward to full democracy truly for all.
