Out with cruelty, in with compassion

31. Creating a perfect world for all farm animals. Betsy, Honey, and Meredith cows found fame on the set of Utopia. After the TV show failed, they could have been sent back to a dairy. Instead, they came to Sanctuary.
32. Taking foie gras off the menu in California and New York City! Farm Sanctuary continues backing legislation to ban further production and sale of the fatty, diseased livers of force-fed ducks and geese.
33. Animals enjoy full, natural lives at Sanctuary. Waylon donkey, one of our eldest residents, lived with us for nearly 20 years!
34. Turkeys are the guests of honor at our holiday celebrations. Since 1986, we’ve encouraged people to adopt a turkey instead of eating one.
35. To celebrate our 35th anniversary, Buzzfeed shared a list of 35 animals who changed the world during their lives at Sanctuary. Their stories (and friendships!) have inspired countless people to see farm animals as living, feeling beings—not commodities.

The Power of Sanctuary Celebrating 35 Years
Saturday, October 9, 2021
4:00 p.m. PT / 7:00 p.m. ET
The Sanctuary movement wasn't created by one person or one organization, but by the collective actions of compassionate individuals—by believers like you. You are the Power of Sanctuary.
On October 9, please join us for a virtual celebration—with special guests John Lewis, Dominick Thompson, Bob Weir, Paul Wesley, and appearances by James Cromwell, Alicia Silverstone and more! Together, we’ll reflect on 35 years of Sanctuary, plus the work involved in creating a more just and compassionate food system.
We’ll be honoring amazing changemakers: Brenda Sanders of Thrive Baltimore, Afro-Vegan Society, Vegan Soulfest, and Greener Kitchen and Maggie Baird of Support + Feed for their commitment to food justice and combating food insecurity. You’ll hear stories of survival, of hard-won victories, and more!
