Governor Kim Reynolds is headed to the US-Mexico border for a political stunt to drum up support from her far-right base.
Unfortunately, it's exactly what we've come to expect from her. Her administration already wasted $300,000 deploying Iowa State Patrol to the border, and she's publicly supporting a school board candidate who is part of a group sending death threats to local elected officials over COVID-19 precautions in schools. It's gotten so bad that Attorney General Merrick Garland was forced to involve the FBI. He said in a recent memo that "these threats are not only illegal, they run counter to our nation’s core values."
We couldn't agree more -- this isn't the Iowa we know, and it doesn't have to be like this.
