Hi John,
As the first out gay person to run for Congress in WA’s 6th District, LGBTQ+ history month is personal to me.
It’s amazing how much attitudes have changed since I was in high school, when a majority of Americans did not support gay marriage. Now 70% of Americans do, including 55% of Republicans.
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of work to do, especially for trans people, whose rights are under attack from Republicans across the country. According to the Transgender Law Center, the U.S. ranks third in the world for trans homicides, after Brazil and Mexico, and trans women of color are particularly targeted.
In Congress, I will fight for the Equality Act to recognize the legitimacy of trans people’s genders, to ban conversion therapy, to ban the gay/trans panic murder excuse, and to pass Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s amendment to the Violence Against Women Act ensuring that trans women receive support after surviving violence.
Trans rights are human rights, and I will always fight to protect the trans community.
If you can, please chip into my campaign now, so I can fight for the whole LGBTQ+ community in Congress:
