Sign EIE Petition to Mark Zuckerberg SIGN THE PETITION DEMANDING FACEBOOK CEO MARK ZUCKERBERG PERMANENTLY ABANDON PLANS FOR 'INSTAGRAM KIDS' APP Facebook heard from Enough Is Enough and from Congress, and put its plan for Instagram for Kids under 13 on “pause.” However, a full victory can’t be declared until Facebook (1) permanently ABOLISHES this irresponsible plan, (2) implements age-verification technology to keep kids under 13 years old off Instagram/Facebook, (3) implements stronger safety protocols for 13-17 year-olds on both Facebook and Instagram, and (4) develops robust parental control tools for parents. We need your help to make these demands heard loud and clear! “I came forward because I believe that every human being deserves the dignity of the truth.” - Frances Haugen, Former Facebook manager turned whistleblower On Tuesday, Haugen told a Senate subcommittee that Facebook and Instagram can be addictive and harmful to children. She came armed with thousands of key documents, one of which showed that Facebook researchers knew Instagram was toxic for teenage girls. Haugen said, “Facebook knows they are leading young users to anorexia content.” She also said the company actively seeks to attract children to its platforms, especially Instagram, because “they understand the value of younger users for the long-term success of Facebook.” “Facebook exploited teens using powerful algorithms to amplify their insecurities,” emphasized Senator Richard Blumenthal, the chairman of the subcommittee. Despite the public outcry depicting the harms posed by Facebook platforms, Facebook recently stated: “building ‘Instagram Kids’ is the right thing to do” and they “stand by the need to develop this experience.” Enough Is Enough continues its call for Facebook to PERMANENTLY ABANDON its plans. EIE President Donna Rice Hughes released a video commentary following Tuesday's Facebook Senate hearing sharing steps Facebook and Instagram must take to truly be safe: It’s clear that Facebook's current efforts to empower parents to keep their kids safe are sadly lacking: If parents are concerned about a photo or video that violates their child’s privacy, they can’t take it down if the child is 13 years old and above! If a child is under 13, parents needs to request the removal of the image of their child by filling out a form! This is nonsense and a reckless practice! Here's a screenshot taken from Facebook's OWN Help Center! Bottom line: All Facebook cares about is its bottom line and not the safety of children who use its platforms! Please sign EIE's petition HERE going directly to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook Execs demanding they PERMANENTLY ABANDON this reckless plan! More than 11K have already signed the original petition EIE released in May when Facebook first announced its plans. Finally, Donna spoke with Faith Nation to react to the Facebook hearing and shares the impact of social platforms on teens and tweens, as well as a parent's role in being the first line of defense.
