Hi there — This email is a little longer than what I usually write, but it’s important. If you can spare a few minutes, I hope you take the time to read it and sign our petition to expand affordable health care and close the Medicaid coverage gap in states like Wisconsin. [[link removed]]

When I was nine years old, I was diagnosed with a serious illness and spent three months in the hospital. When I got better, my grandparents who raised me looked for an insurance policy that would cover me in the future.

But they couldn’t find one. Not from any insurer. Not at any price — all because I was a child who had been labeled with those words: “pre-existing condition.”

I saw my grandparents stay up at night worried sick that I would fall ill again and they wouldn't be able to afford my care. No one should ever have to go through that.

That’s why I have spent my career fighting to protect and expand affordable health care for all Americans — from fighting against right-wing efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, to championing reform that allows young folks to stay on their guardians’ insurance until the age of 26, and more.

But we still have so much work to do to fight Republican attacks and bring affordable health care to every American.

Here in Wisconsin, the Republican-led state legislature has refused to accept federal funding and expand Medicaid for over 90,000 Wisconsinites for over a decade. That means that in our state, you can work a job bringing home just $13,000 a year and not qualify for affordable health care. That’s downright wrong.

So this summer, I introduced the Medicaid Saves Lives Act alongside Senators Warnock and Ossoff — legislation that would expand affordable health care for folks who have been shut out of Medicaid coverage in states like Wisconsin and Georgia. We have the majority to get this passed, and it’s time for Democrats to get it done.

If you’re with me, add your name to my petition demanding Congress close the coverage gap and expand affordable health care for more than four million Americans immediately.

Every American deserves affordable health care coverage, and I won’t stop fighting until we make that a reality.

Thanks for standing with me on this.
