Friend,

It's rare for me to enter the Capitol building without thinking back to January 6.

The experience of that day -- the sounds of glass breaking as a violent mob breached the Capitol, their screams and chants, the low rumble of furniture being pushed across the floor to block the House chamber doors -- is almost impossible to describe.

But it's pretty easy to describe why it happened: President Trump and his Republican foot soldiers lied over and over about widespread voter fraud. On January 6, he repeated those lies and urged his supporters to march to the Capitol. You saw what happened next.

That insurrection was an assault on our country, and I refuse to let Republicans sweep it under the rug. That's why I'm so committed to passing the Freedom to Vote Act and restoring faith in our democracy.

I'll go into more detail shortly, but first: Will you add your name in support of this crucial, democracy-saving bill?

Since the election, Republican-led states have been using Trump's Big Lie as cover to pass laws that make it harder to vote and easier to overturn election results. It’s nauseating. It's anti-democratic. If such laws had been in place in 2020, individual states could have defied the will of the people and delivered Trump the electoral votes he needed to stay president.

That's not what democracy looks like.

The Freedom to Vote Act would combat these manipulative power-grab tactics and increase faith in our elections. It would establish national voting standards, like universal early voting and same-day registration, and prevent state-level election subversion. But given the headwinds we face from Republicans, this will only get done if there’s an outpouring of public support.

So at this critical moment, I've got to ask: Will you please add your name today in support of the commonsense democracy reforms in the Freedom to Vote Act?

Thank you,

Dean
