[1]Real Justice
John,
You’ve heard me talk about why our work at Real Justice PAC is so
important. With that in mind, I’m filled with pride to share some updates
about what we’ve accomplished together recently.
Let’s start with the fight against the dangerous, right-wing,
billionaire-backed efforts to recall San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin.
With your amazing support, we defeated the first effort to recall Chesa
back in August. With your participation, we surpassed 500,000 calls for
our Stand with Chesa campaign. That’s HUGE.
We also announced a diverse coalition standing united in to defeat these
recall efforts including the California Working Families Party, Bay Area
Sunrise Movement, the San Francisco Democratic Party, the San Francisco
Berniecrats, and more!
Back in 2019, we helped elect Chesa and since then, he’s done absolutely
transformational work for the city of San Francisco. Chesa has stood up
for the people of San Francisco by suing ghost gun manufacturers to get
the guns off the streets. He also conspored AB 866 which would enable
community based organizations with the ability to provide mental health
services and compensation to victims of hate crimes.
In the face of mounting attacks by more right-wing, dark money groups
intent on recalling the elections of our bold, justice champions, we also
launched a DA defense fund to support our champion DAs.
In Pennsylvania, DA Larry Krasner – who we helped reelect in a LANDSLIDE –
has been hard at work to bring justice to the people he represents. He
helped free Arthur “Cetawayo” Johnson, who served 50 years in jail on a
wrongful conviction. Larry also charged three cops for lying under oath in
the case against Anthony Wright, who was ALSO wrongfully convicted.
In Texas, another DA that we helped elect – Travis County DA Jose Garza –
has been doing incredible work to bring long overdue accountability to
violent police officers. After his predecessor refused to press charges,
Jose filed charges against Austin Police Department Officer Christopher
Taylor in the murder of Dr. Mauris DeSilva.
In Missouri, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner has been RELENTLESS in
her fight to prove the innocence of Lamar Johnson by revealing evidence
her predecessor had refused to release.
In Florida, State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court Monique
Worrell introduced a policy that would prevent cops with a history of
misconduct from testifying in court – an ESSENTIAL policy that would put a
stop to the constant misleading testimony these kinds of cops make in
cases that put people’s lives on the line.
And in Louisiana, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams has
begun to investigate HUNDREDS of cases where people were convicted by
racist Jim Crow juries. He also helped free Jermaine Hudson – someone who
had been thrown in jail for 22 years on the premises of a complete lie
told by his accuser – but had never been listened to by the previous DA.
This is all possible because of the contributions and support from people
like you,
John. Together, we are changing
LIVES. I know I speak for everyone at Real Justice when I say THANK YOU.
We’re hard at work defending the DAs we have in office from disingenuous
attacks and busy looking at how to make an impact on some hugely important
DA races in 2022.
I can’t wait to see what this team will do in the months to come.
Love and appreciate you,
Shaun
P.S. To keep this momentum going, it’s important that our work stays
well-funded and well-equipped for the fights ahead. [ [link removed] ]If you can, please
