Big Match Fortnight:
We’re doubling your donations to save a tropical paradise!
Imagine a magnificent network of forested lagoons, wetlands and mangroves in Caribbean Guatemala; still intact in an area where 80% of lowland forest has already been logged.

Imagine you could be a guardian of this tropical landscape packed with biodiversity – that you had the power to save it for future generations.

That is what you’ll be doing if you support the appeal (Guardians of Nimla Ha’) we’re launching today. With Big Match Fortnight doubling your donations  from 6 to 19 October, together we can help our partner FUNDAECO triple their Laguna Grande Reserve from 1,668 acres to almost 5,000 acres – saving the home of 700+ species, a hurricane barrier for Guatemalans and a major carbon sink.

At £1,200,000, this appeal is WLT’s most ambitious to date.
Help us make history, donate to be the guardian of great waters key to conservation, communities and climate!

“Our people need Laguna Grande. It is the air we breathe”

Maya Q’eqchi’ community worker Marta Tiul Cabnal on what WLT supporters could achieve through Big Match Fortnight 2021

In her letter to WLT supporters, Marta tells you about her journey: from being the first in her Maya Q’eqchi’ community to graduate, to working with FUNDAECO so that local people benefit from conservation at Laguna Grande – a “majestic” landscape she invites you to help her save.

To WLT supporters I’d say – if you help us protect Laguna Grande you will support this circle where conservation and communities go hand in hand. If we at FUNDAECO don’t act now to protect the Laguna, there’s a chance that someone might ruin and pollute all this natural bounty in the future.”
