Black History Month 2021

London is proud of its diversity and the vibrancy this brings, both across the capital and in our local communities. That’s why, during October, a huge range of events are being held across London to celebrate Black History Month - from creative writing workshops, celebration of local businesses and events specifically for children. Many are free and run throughout the day to enable everyone to attend.

A list of borough events can be found on our website, highlighting the breadth of activity occurring this month.

London pivotal in levelling up agenda

Speaking at the Conservative Party conference on Tuesday, Paul Scully, Minister for London, joined London Councils' event to discuss the importance of levelling up London.

HGVs meeting low emission standards

Ninety five percent of heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches in London now meet the strict Low Emission Zone standards.

A new report published this week shows that since stricter standards for the London-wide Low Emission Zone (LEZ) were introduced in March this year, the number of heavy vehicles complying has increased from 87 per cent to 95 per cent – and has almost doubled since the scheme was first announced in February 2017.

Borough Climate Conference

The Borough Climate Conference will be held on Tuesday 19 October, 10.00am – 4.00pm, for officers and politicians within London boroughs. Mayor Philip Glanville would be delighted if you could join us for this online-only conference which is an opportunity for boroughs to get up to speed with the fast-changing climate policy landscape ahead of COP26.

The conference will:

  • assess overall progress on climate action in London since 2019 and across the wider policy landscape
  • galvanise support for the climate programmes amongst boroughs and their partners and
  • build momentum for post-COP climate action
