This spill is yet another reminder that we need to work quickly to end our reliance on oil and other fossil fuels, and we need to ban new offshore drilling while phasing down existing drilling.
By now you've probably heard about the major oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach, California that happened this weekend. Tens of thousands of gallons of heavy crude spilled into the ocean -- shutting down beaches, destroying marine habitats, and causing major environmental damage.
This spill is yet another reminder that we need to work quickly to end our reliance on oil and other fossil fuels, and we need to ban new offshore drilling while phasing down existing drilling.
Democrats in the House are advancing the legislation we need to prevent these spills, but we need to build the grassroots power to make them a reality. That's why we're asking:
Doing nothing about the health of our oceans and the changing climate means we are complacent with the existential threat of climate change. We need to ensure a more sustainable planet for our kids and grandkids.
