John,

The right to vote is sacred in a democracy. Tomorrow, I will chair a full Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on protecting that right with the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

The late John Lewis was one of the most extraordinary voting rights advocates our country has known. It is only fitting that we pass this legislation in his honor -- and that’s what I’m working toward in the Senate with tomorrow’s hearing. But first, I want to hear from you, John:

We need to use our voices as Americans and speak up for the right to vote. Will you add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act?

Time after time, when Democrats have tried to protect voting rights, the GOP has stood in the way. But we can’t accept the status quo any longer -- not with the right to vote under attack.

This is a pivotal moment as we work toward passing this bill. Can I count on your support?

Sign on now if you’re with me: let’s protect the right to vote for every eligible American.

My best,

Dick Durbin
