The United States is the only industrialized country without paid family and medical leave. This is unacceptable, and it must change.

Our families need and deserve a national paid family and medical leave program. And not only is it good for families — it’s good for the economy!

If you agree, will you join me in calling on Congress to pass paid family leave as part of the Build Back Better bill? They need to hear that this is important to all of us.

Our economic policies must support working families.

When I was Chief Justice, I learned that court employees were expected to give birth one week and return to the court the next. That’s unacceptable.

And that’s why as Chief Justice, we created a paid family and medical leave policy for employees within the court system. That helped over 7,000 employees be successful at their jobs and take care of their loved ones.

But the truth is, that is sadly not the norm for most North Carolinians. In fact, more than half of our state’s workers currently have no access to any form of family leave — not even unpaid.

We cannot settle for a piecemeal approach that leaves families behind and hurts our economy.

Will you add your name to my petition to tell Congress to include paid family and medical leave in the Build Back Better bill? It is unacceptable that America is the only industrialized nation without it.
