John -

It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news that tar sands oil has officially begun to flow through the Line 3 pipeline.

It’s deeply upsetting that we’ve reached this point – that our leaders have once again failed to honor Indigenous treaties and put oil company profits above our survival.

But here’s the truth: We have so much to be proud of and this fight is far from over. Not only are we fighting in the courtroom, we’re doubling down on our pressure on President Biden with one of the largest climate events in decades.

For those of you in the D.C. area, we’ll be in touch with more details – but no matter where you live, we need to flood the White House with calls, messages, and actions:

It’s time to send a wake up call. Will you contact the White House today to demand that President Biden declare a climate emergency and block all new fossil fuel projects?

We’re flooding the White House comment line, so if you’re not able to get through, you can leave a written message here. [[link removed]

In the last year, 900 water protectors have been arrested for peacefully resisting Line 3. More than 400 organizations and 63 elected officials asked Biden to reject the project. Meanwhile, President Biden never spoke a word about it.

After Enbridge paid $2 million to local police to outfit them with riot gear; after two Line 3 workers were arrested for human trafficking; after Enbrige punctured an aquifer and hid it for months1 – still nothing.

While Biden cancelled the Keystone XL pipeline, his administration worked to ensure that Line 3 was approved. Biden could have easily paused construction and ordered the complete environmental review that Trump never did, but he chose to let it move forward and never explained why.

It’s time for Biden to choose a side. He promised to be a climate champion, but he’s failed on the most important test: stopping the fossil fuel projects that lock us into more climate chaos.

President Biden has the executive authority to stop new fossil fuel projects and declare a climate emergency. Will you call the White House today to demand that Biden choose a side: people or fossil fuels? [[link removed]

We’ll be in touch with more ways you can support the actions in D.C. next week.

With hope and gratitude,

- Team 350
