Did you know that Katie’s district—CA-45—experienced some of the fastest population growth in the country?
According to the 2020 Census, Katie’s district saw growth of more than 110,000 residents in ten years, the most of any district in the entire state. This growth will have a big impact on redistricting, which is happening now and could make Katie’s next re-election even tougher. No matter how the new lines fall, Katie will have to introduce herself to new voters.
Luckily, voting here in California is becoming more accessible. Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California will now have permanent vote-by-mail—meaning that every registered voter will get a ballot in the mail for each upcoming election without having to request one.
This is excellent news, and now we need to make sure voters know about this change so that ballots don’t end up forgotten under a stack of mail (or accidentally tossed in the recycling).
With a competitive re-election and lots of change coming in 2022—we need to make sure we’re able to reach the many new voters in CA-45 and introduce them to Katie Porter and what she stands for.
Doing this will take considerable resources—and Katie will have to go up against numerous right-wing opponents and heavy spending from the NRCC and GOP. That’s why it’s so critical that we reach out to new voters early and effectively.
