CONGRESSIONAL MAP TRACKER:

These are a few of the states we had our eyes on this past week -- places where we’ve been expecting state legislatures to propose gerrymandered maps.
Republicans only need FIVE seats to flip the house. And last week alone, we have seen gerrymandered congressional maps proposed in two of the four states considered their most direct path to taking the majority.
We have a plan to combat their playbook. We are relying on grassroots donations to help fund crucial work like map analysis, state-by-state accountability campaigns, and trainings to help voters prepare for public hearings. Chip in to help make this work possible.

Each state's process and timeline are different. But so far, we’re seeing a pattern. Map manipulators are sticking to their 2011 playbooks.
→ ignore input from the public, release maps without warning, or hide them away
→ pack and crack communities of color to dilute their electoral power
→ refuse to acknowledge changes seen in the census data
But they are taking it one step further: in both Texas and Georgia, map drawers have gerrymandered district lines enough to eliminate competitive districts.
For the record, competitiveness is one of the ways to determine if a map or district is fair. A map in Texas or Georgia with zero competitive districts is not fair.
If map manipulators are successful, they will essentially predetermine which party will win in every district they draw -- for an entire decade. And during that time, gerrymandered state legislators will push voter suppression bills and Republican U.S. House members from gerrymandered states will continue to obstruct democracy reforms, or perhaps even presidential elections.
This might be our last real chance to break the cycle of gerrymandering.
