RSVP Here to Phonebank
this Wednesday,
Oct 6th for
Briana Sewell (VA-HD51) or Joshua
Cole (VA-HD28)!

Phonebank with us Wednesday night from 6:30pm-8pm! Every call makes a difference for state level candidates, and this year in Virginia is crucial. Democrats there have expanded Medicaid, declared Election Day a holiday, enacted gun control laws, banned the gay/trans panic defense, expanded voting rights, and more. But to keep up this good work, we need to keep the majority in the house - we've seen in Texas how easy it is to undo and backtrack against voting and reproductive rights, and we don't want to see that happen in VA!

Our phonebank this coming Wednesday (October 6) will differ from all our prior phonebanks, because (i) it’s the first phonebank where our callers will be able to make calls for either Briana Sewell or Joshua Cole, and (ii) Sister District’s DC/VA/MD chapter is participating in a one-week experiment run by Sister District Action Network and Sister District’s Organizing Department to examine how to maximize direct voter contact in phonebanks. On October 6 the DC/VA/MD chapter will be part of the experimental group, and will cut off each unanswered call after 3 rings (or 5 rings for older callers) and move on to their next call. For this phonebank only, our chapter will be tracking only whether or not our calls are answered by a person. We could really use your help in helping us test this theory so be sure to RSVP today to join us Wednesday!

Why Phonebanking?

Phonebanking is our best remote volunteering option for voter contact. We identify supporters, find and speak with undecided voters, tidy campaign data for voter targeting, and recruit local volunteers. That's why we have been showing up virtually every Wednesday evening since June to help campaigns make calls!

What to Expect?

Each virtual phonebank over Zoom includes training for new phonebankers at 6:30pm (returning callers can jump right into making calls), and check-ins mid-way through and at the end. We'll share successes and address questions throughout via the chat box. Veteran phonebank leaders help you get comfortable, increase your effectiveness, and make sure you have a great experience.

We hope to "see" you there this Wednesday!

The Sister District DC/MD/VA Team

P.S. If you’re able to, please join our chapter in canvassing for our candidates on October 16 (Briana Sewell) and October 30 (Josh Cole). The canvassing team will leave from downtown Washington, and we are in particular need for canvassers who can also offer to drive out to VA - vaccinations and masks are required, particularly to keep us all safe on the drive out.

You can also help us get out the vote by joining us this Friday, October 8th at 5:45pm in Malcolm X Parkin Washington, DC to write postcards to VA voters, while being serenaded by the stylings of the prohibition-era jazz group, the Foggy Bottom Whomp-Stompers.
