Policy Spotlight: The Biden Health Agenda

Last month we launched our new events program featuring Lunch & Learns, a Journal Club, and professional development sessions to compliment our Policy Spotlight series.

We are excited to share our October schedule of free virtual events designed to showcase exciting thinkers, policy makers and policies; drill deeper into our signature content; and hone the skills of a new generation of health policy researchers and aficionados.

October Events:

Health Affairs Briefing: Perinatal Mental Health

Date: Friday, October 8, 2021
Time: 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Eastern/10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Pacific

Mental health conditions are diagnosed in one of every five pregnant or postpartum people, yet perinatal mental health is poorly addressed by the US health care system. The
October 2021 issue of Health Affairs is mostly devoted to perinatal mental health, and this virtual forum will draw attention to the evidence related to and to further the policy discussion of these important issues. It will feature US Representative Lauren Underwood (IL), the co-founder and co-chair of the Black Maternal Health Caucus and a lead sponsor of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2021, and presentations by a select group of authors from the issue.

The focus of the October Health Affairs Journal Club meeting is with Health Affairs author

Her study, "Medicaid Expansion Associated With Some Improvements In Perinatal Mental Health," is based on survey data linking Medicaid expansion with positive mental health outcomes during pregnancy. This event is an opportunity for an up-close look at the research, methods, and findings of this paper from the October 2021 issue of the journal, which is mostly devoted to the topic of perinatal mental health.
Lunch and Learn: What is Health Affairs doing to Advance Racial Equity in Scholarly Publishing?

Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2021
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Eastern / 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Pacific

Health Affairs Director of Health Equity, Vabren Watts, PhD, will give an update on the implementation of the journal’s initiative to advance racial equity in scholarly publishing of health services research.
