John,
CREW broke some big news last week, and I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss it. The hours of Park Police recordings we obtained, which have been covered by Rachel Maddow, CNN and MSNBC, have shed new light on how January 6th unfolded, and have exposed that federal law enforcement was overwhelmed by protestors many hours earlier than we originally knew.
If you think that CREW’s work getting answers about January 6th is valuable, then I hope you’ll consider joining hundreds of fellow CREW supporters and becoming a monthly donor. Ongoing financial support is truly essential to allowing us to continue our work for the long haul.
Of course, our investigation into January 6th is only one small part of our work. From helping craft reform legislation in Congress, to holding dark money groups accountable, to exposing corporate donors to insurrectionist members of Congress—we’re truly working on all fronts to make our government more ethical, accountable, and transparent. If you value that work, then I hope you’ll commit to a monthly donation today.
Thank you,
Arielle Linsky Stogner
Chief Operating Officer, CREW
P.S. As a thank you to all recurring donors, we’re holding a briefing call next week with CREW President Noah Bookbinder and Policy Director Jennifer Ahearn—stay tuned for more details.

John,
Hours before the Capitol was breached on January 6th, the Park Police was already overwhelmed, struggling to hold back mobs of protestors at the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Park Police recordings obtained by CREW make clear just how unprepared Park Police and other federal agencies were for the throngs of rioters who ultimately attacked the Capitol.
For more, read CREW’s new investigation—and then, if you’re able, I hope you’ll consider becoming a sustaining monthly donor, so that CREW is able to continue investigations like this one.
CREW’s investigations of January 6th have already uncovered:
- details about a briefing sent by Homeland Security to the Pentagon, after protesters entered the Capitol, reporting “no major incidents of illegal activity;”
- information about a memo, written by Joseph Maher, now on the staff of the House Select Committee, that restricted the use of open-source intelligence about “election-related threats;"
- and details about the Park Police’s efforts to potentially block permits for the January 6th rally.
Getting answers about all aspects of what happened on January 6 is crucial to accountability and moving forward, and CREW is doing everything we can to shed light on the buildup, response, and aftermath to the insurrection.
If you value that work—as well as CREW’s work advancing democracy reform, shining a light on corruption and abuses of power, and much more—then I hope you’ll consider joining hundreds of CREW supporters and become a sustaining supporter. As a thank you, you’re invited to a briefing call on Wednesday, October 13th and 3 pm ET about CREW’s investigations, the prospects for democracy reform in Congress, and more. And even better, you’ll know that your $5, $10, or $25 a month is helping CREW continue the fight for a stronger, fairer democracy.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
President, CREW
