John,
Two weeks ago, nearly 50 people testified for close to FIVE HOURS before the New York City Council in support of the landmark Our City, Our Vote legislation. Immigrants and allies advocated for an immediate vote on this bill, which would restore municipal voting rights for the nearly one million immigrant New Yorkers who remain voiceless in our city. It is essential that the NYC Council swiftly pass this bill—immigrant New Yorkers have waited long enough to have a voice on the big and small issues of local governance that affect their lives.
The bill has the votes to pass and is overwhelmingly supported by the people of New York City. Now is the time for Speaker Corey Johnson to schedule a floor vote on Intro 1867. We must ensure that our representatives keep their word, and vote on this monumental bill without delay.
We need your voice to help uplift immigrants in New York. Call on Speaker Corey Johnson to bring our bill for a vote!
