Dear People For Supporter,
I’ll be quick. Our right to vote is under assault -- on a scale that we haven’t seen since the days of Jim Crow.
There can be no more excuses – from Congress or from this administration. The survival of our democracy depends on the willingness of our leaders not just to tell us but to SHOW us how committed they are to defending our free and fair elections.
That’s why this morning we’re taking the message directly to the White House –- and risking arrest.
You've stood with us and helped build the national movement to save democracy with the reforms -- before Congress right now in the Freedom to Vote Act -- that will protect voting rights, end gerrymandering, and get dark money out of elections.
This historic legislation is being held up thanks to the Senate filibuster. It’s up to President Biden to meet this moment and lead, by using the power of the presidency (and his expert knowledge of the Senate) to break the impasse and get senators to eliminate the filibuster as the obstacle.
We’re on our way to the White House, with our partners the League of Women Voters, the Declaration for American Democracy coalition, and various civil rights and faith leaders to make sure we are heard:
Our democracy can't wait. There can be no more excuses. The Senate must fix or nix the filibuster in order to protect voting rights. And President Biden has an essential role in this fight.
