Friend,

Facebook’s motto for a long time was “Move fast and break things.” And while that’s a nice catchphrase, when the “thing” being broken is our economic stability, it’s up to Congress to pump the brakes.

Mark Zuckerberg wants to play fast and loose with his economic currency Libra, but when it comes to oversight that would keep the rest of us safe, he doesn’t seem quite as enthusiastic. At yesterday’s hearing, I pressed him to commit to waiting until we have a regulatory framework in place that would protect the American people -- and he couldn’t give me a straight answer.

Here’s the thing. Zuckerberg has shown us that we can’t trust him in the past, and we’re certainly not going to cross our fingers and hope for the best now. We need strong leaders who are willing to stand up to big tech and put the good of the American people over Silicon Valley’s profits. Can I count on you to support me as I stand up to Facebook, Amazon, or any other company that tries to “break things” without any regard for the consequences?
