I just got back from surveying the massive and tragic oil spill. Barrels and barrels of oil flooded our waters over the weekend, causing damage that will affect our waters, our precious wildlife, and our ability to enjoy all the ocean has to offer.

It's devastating.

But, there are ways that you can help. 

You can donate to critical organizations:

• Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center. Your donations will allow them to buy the resources to save birds and other wildlife who have been impacted by this tragic spill.
• Pacific Marine Mammal Center. The Center rescues orphaned seals and sea lions and nurses them back to health.
• Surfrider Foundation. Your donations will help the organization clean up the spill and will try to ensure these spills do not continue to occur.

Volunteers are not currenly needed to help with the oil spill, and folks should stay away from the ocean. However, there are several ways you can still help:

• Surfrider Foundation. You can sign up with the Surfrider Foundation, and they will let you know when they are in need of volunteers. 
• Cal Spill Watch. You can sign up to assist cleaning up with the Unified Command. However, they are only using trained contractors and volunteers now. 
• Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy. You can call Huntington Beach Wetland Conservancy at (714) 374-5587 to help support animal rescue.
• And, if you find an affected animal, please call the Oiled Wildlife Care Network at (877) 823-6926.

This is a tough time for us all, but we can come together and get through this. And, as a reminder, we have to stay away from the beaches and oceans affected right now. It will do a whole lot of good.
